Vandervorst to stage ‘Belgican Rhapsody’ at BSA tomorrow

Music composer Max Vandervorst will come up with an instrumental musical performance ‘Belgican Rhapsody’ as part of Francophonie Week at the National Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy in Dhaka on March 16.

Vandervorst is composer and inventor of musical instruments. Since 1988, he has put together a number of performances, showcasing instruments he created using a wide variety of objects as raw material. His performances – ‘Symphony for Abandoned Objects’, ‘Concerto for Two Bicycles’, ‘The Man from Spa’, and ‘The paper orchestra’ – have been staged numerous times in many countries.

He is also a prolific composer of stage music and the designer of the ‘Maison de la Pataphonie’ in Dinant (Belgium). He frequently intervenes as an instructor at the CFMI (French University) and leads international workshops (Torino, Montreux, Barcelona, Paris).

Francophonie refers to an international organisation of French-speaking countries and governments, and also to the community of French-speaking people.

Journée internationale de la francophonie’ or ‘The International Day of the Francophonie’ is observed around the world every year on March 20 to celebrate the love for the French language, the cultural diversity and harmony it beckons, as well to foster the values of peace, democracy and respect for human rights.
