Ashwell Prince will continue as the batting coach of the Bangladesh national team till the upcoming T20 World Cup, cricket operations chairman of Bangladesh Cricket Board Akram Khan confirmed.

The South African coach was primarily appointed for the Tigers’ Zimbabwe tour, where they reigned victorious in all three formats.

Akram told the media on Monday that the cricketers trusted him, and thus they have decided to continue with him until the World Cup starting in October.

“We appointed him (Prince) only for the Zimbabwe series. We have taken the feedback from the cricketers, and they seem to trust him.

“We are satisfied with his work. We plan to go ahead with him as it will be difficult to find another coach before the World Cup. Surely, he will be with us till the World Cup,” Akram said.

He also informed that despite rumours of the Australia series getting delayed, they would arrive at the scheduled time on July 29.

“We have been in constant communication with Cricket Australia for the past ten days, and they will arrive in Bangladesh at the scheduled time. There was an issue in their ongoing series against West Indies, but that was resolved,” Akram informed.

Australia have already faced a hurdle ahead of the tour as their limited-overs skipper Aaron Finch had to head home from the Caribbeans due to a knee injury and will miss the Bangladesh series.

Despite that, Akram believes that Australia are a very good side though Bangladesh will have a chance on home soil.

“To be honest, we are not as good in Tests and T20Is as we are in one-day internationals. But we are trying. Few of our players did well in Zimbabwe, and we have to give them time. Australia are a good side capable of playing well anywhere in the world. We will have an advantage in our backyard, but still, Australia are a very difficult opponent,” he said.

Australia will play five twenty20 internationals against Bangladesh, starting from July 3. All five matches will be at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium at Mirpur.
