Sunamganj DSA to lift lifetime ban on Nasum

Sunamganj District Sports Association is all set to lift the ban on Nasum Ahmed, which was imposed on him in 2015 for not taking part in the national championship for the home side, said the local cricket secretary Rezwanul Haque Raza.

Nasum took four wickets against Australia and was the key architect of the Tiger’s first-ever win against the Aussies in Twenty20 format.

The left-arm spinner made his debut for the national team in March this year during the New Zealand tour but could not perform impressively before the first T20 match against Australia, where he picked his career-best 4-19 and was judged player of the match.

The stellar performance from Nasum prompted the Sunamganj DSA officials to lift the six-year-old ban on him.

“According to the by-laws, if someone plays in the Sunamganj league, he must represent Sunamganj

district team if selected. Nasum was selected to play for Sunamganj in the National Cricket Championship 2015. But he preferred to play for Sylhet,”

Raza, also a BCB Councilor, told The Business Post.

“He played the league for Paramount Club in the local league. But later on, he denied to play for Sunamgonj district, and thus the DSA imposed a lifetime ban on him,” he added.

Nasum has been representing Sylhet from the Under-13 level since his family moved to Sylhet City from Dirai, Sunamganj where he had been living since childhood and playing local cricket.

The Sunamganj DSA even barred him from playing in a local tournament in Sunamganj a few days ago and told him to submit an application to lift the ban that Nasum did not respond to.

Now the DSA is going to lift the ban on their homeboy who earned national glory.

“We are going to lift the ban on Nasum. He is a national cricketer and our pride. I have already told the Paramount Club to submit an application. After receiving the letter in the next meeting, we will lift the ban,” Raza told TBP.
