Bangladesh left-arm seamer Shoriful Islam has been given an official reprimand following a breach of level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct in the Tigers’ third twenty20 international against Australia.
Shoriful dismissed Mitchell Marsh, who scored a fifty in the match, in the 18th over of the Aussie innings and gave him a verbal send-off. This came after a heated conversation between the batsman and Shoriful, Bangladesh skipper Mahmudullah Riyad and wicket-keeper Nurul Hasan Sohan.
Shoriful was found to have breached Article 2.5 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support
Personnel, which relates to “using language, actions or gestures which disparage or which could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batter upon his/her dismissal during an International Match.”
One demerit point was added to Shoriful’s disciplinary record, his first offence in a 24-month period.
The young seamer admitted the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by match referee Neeyamur Rashid Rahul and thus avoided a formal hearing.
