The 13th SAFF Championship will be held in Maldives in October, the South Asian Football Federation announced on Monday.
Nepal and Maldives were the two nations interested to host the prestigious tournament and they had both submitted official proposals to SAFF to host the championship.
Maldives were voted as the hosts unanimously in the executive meeting of SAFF on Monday. After missing out, Nepal congratulated Maldives on being elected as hosts.
This is the first time Maldives will be hosting the SAFF Championships by themselves. In 2008, they co-hosted the tournament along with Sri Lanka.
General Secretary of SAFF, Anowarul Haque Helal said that Maldives will have almost 80 per cent of their population vaccinated by September and thus they were chosen.
The tournament will kick off on October 1 and end on October 13. – TBP
