Shakib achieves rare T20I double

Shakib Al Hasan became the first-ever cricketer to achieve a rare feat as he reached 100 wickets in twenty20 internationals that saw him become the first-ever cricketer to complete a ‘double’ of 1000 runs and 100 wickets in T20Is.

He came to bowl his third over of the match in the 12th over of the innings, and in the very second ball, Ashton Turner spooned one straight to Mahmudullah in the short cover who took a nice catch to remove the batsman who was victim number 100 for Shakib.

The all-rounder has become the second-highest wicket-taker in international T20 matches and only the second cricketer to reach the 100 wicket landmark after Lasith Malinga, who ended his career with 107 wickets for Sri Lanka.

Shakib, who has played 84 T20I matches, passed the 1000 runs landmark long ago, in 2016, during a match against Pakistan in the World T20, and currently has 1718 runs in this format.

Shakib’s closest competition could be Shahid Afridi, who scored 1416 runs in T20I but ended two wickets short of 100, which kept the gate open for Shakib to be the first one to complete a double.

The all-rounder ended up with an impressive bowling figure of 3.4-1-9-4.
