Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan had a double delight Wednesday as he reclaimed his position
at the top of the ICC twenty20 internationals all-rounder rankings, and also bagged the ICC Player of the Month award for July.
Shakib, courtesy of his brilliant performances against Australia, added 21 rating points to his tally to go past Afghanistan’s Mohammad Nabi.
And for his performances against Zimbabwe in the previous month, the ace all-rounder won the ICC
Player of the Month award for July, with West Indies’ woman cricketer Stafanie Taylor.
Shakib had a great July as he contributed to Bangladesh’s series win over Zimbabwe in all three formats. The ace all-rounder picked up five wickets in the only Test and then went on to play an unbeaten knock of 96 runs to hand Bangladesh a victory by two wickets in the second one-day international. He picked up the highest number of wickets in the ODI series as he claimed and also scored 145 runs, making him the third-highest run-scorer in the three-match series.
He failed with the bat in the T20I series but contributed with the ball as he picked up three wickets with an economy rate of seven.
After winning the award, Shakib said that this award was very humbling, and he is very happy to contribute to Bangladesh’ recent success.
“It is very humbling to be voted ICC Men’s Player of the Month for July 2021. There have been many outstanding performances during the month and that is why this is special for me.
“I find most pleasure and satisfaction when I contribute to wins and therefore, I am very happy to have helped in Bangladesh’s successes over the last few weeks,” the all-rounder said.
And after the Zimbabwe series, Shakib continued his form with bat and ball in the Tigers five-match T20I series against the Aussies, which
Bangladesh won 4-1. He scored 114 runs and picked up seven wickets at an economy of 6.45.
Mustafiz also gained momentum in the rankings, as he climbed up 20 steps to move into the top 10.
Mohammad Saifuddin and Nasum Ahmed also climbed big as the former went up 26 steps to reach 43rd position whereas Nasum climbed up 103 steps, reaching 66th.
