Bashundhara Kings, two times straight champions of Bangladesh Premier league are looking for international glory as they left for Maldives to take part in AFC cup on Thursday midnight.

Earlier in May, the club from Bangladesh was in its last stages of preparation to take part in the tournament but their journey was postponed as the Maldivian government imposed a travel ban on seven countries, including Bangladesh.

Highlighting the club’s successful season, the club’s Spanish coach Oscar Bruzon told the Business Post, “Our preparation began three months before the local competition. In Bangladesh, if you see our performance and our results we have been solid, regular and consistent from the beginning of the season. We have finished the season on a very good note, with not many ups and downs. We won quite regularly.”

Now, with an aim to broaden the boundaries and achieving glory beyond the borders, he added, “Now we are in a very good moment. We have been waiting for this competition for a long time. For us, this is a matter of pride, we are representing Bangladesh in this tournament. We feel the responsibility and will try to beat the opponents from the sub-continent.”

Bashundhara Kings will play against local side Mazia Sports and Recreation Club on August 18 at the National Football Stadium of Maldives.

On August 21, the Bangladesh Premiere League champions will face the winner of the match between Bengaluru FC and Club Eagles at the same venue.

On August 24, Bashundhara Kings will face ATK Mohunbagan from India.

Kings coach Oscar Bruzon feels the competition will be very tight and little margin of errors will make big differences, “This is a tight competition. I think initially every club have chances to contest for the next available spot. We will play three games. We are sure that small details will matter to determine the final results. So, we need to be very focused. It’s a very balanced group. After analyzing our oppositions, I can say that the competition will be very balanced. Now we are focusing on our first game against Mazia. Try to take first three points. Then our chances will be open in the last two games. So, this is the set-up we have”, the Spaniard told TBP.

Regarding the opponents, Bruzon’s assessments are: “The Indian clubs are also one of the best clubs in India. They are one of the top three Indian Super League clubs, Bengaluru FC and ATK MohunBagan. Mazia has the maximum players from the Maldives national team”, he said on Thursday.
