National selectors are not leaking anything to media regarding the squad for the upcoming five-match Twenty20 series against New Zealand, though they have submitted the team to the Bangladesh Cricket Board, said chief selector Minhazul Abedin.
All the selectors were spotted at the BCB office at the Home of Cricket, Mirpur which hints that they might have had a meeting as the New Zealand series is coming up where they have to take some tough calls.
Mushfiqur Rahim and Liton Kumar Das will make a comeback to the team, who were not eligible to play in the recently concluded series against Australia due to their exit from Bio-secure bubble.
Mushfiq and Liton, both came home early from Zimbabwe due to family emergencies which kept them out of the Australia series. Tamim Iqbal, who did not play any Twenty20 International match since March 2020, might not make his return as he was suggested to take rest and continue rehabilitation for six to eight weeks.
Soumya Sarkar is receiving harsh criticisms for his poor show in the series against Australia, though the head coach Russel Domingo is very much in favour of the left-hander. The role of Nurul Hasan is also another issue to discuss as Mushfiq is returning.
Keeping the preparation for upcoming T20 World Cup in mind, the selectors might try out the squad and team combination for the marquee event but right now they are not dropping any hint, “We have already submitted the team. When we will announce the team, then you will see what are the changes”, said Minhazul to the reporters on Saturday.
The chief selector also told the media that they have made progress to form the much-talked shadow national team.
“We have already done three-four meetings about the Bangladesh Tigers. We are going ahead with a plan regarding this team. Hopefully, we can generate the team in next two weeks. We will form the team from the premier division players. Some will be selected for the HP team, from the rest we will select for Bangladesh Tigers team”, said Minhazul.
