Young Bangladesh cricketer Shamim Hossain, who made an impressive debut for the national team, wants to win more matches for the Tigers as he was part of the two successful series wins.
Shamim is the first batsman from the World Cup-winning under-19 Bangladesh team to feature in the national team, and within a short time, he has made his impression.
In twenty20 internationals, scoring quick runs and the ability to hit the ball hard is in high demand, and luckily, Shamim has got both with a gift of stunning fielding.
He scored some quick runs against visiting Ireland Wolves and in the Dhaka Premier League that earned him a ticket to Zimbabwe, and his performances in the six T20Is he has played so far could get him a place for the upcoming T20 World Cup as well.
Shamim was the highest run-scorer of the team on his international debut as he scored 29 runs off 13 deliveries, including three boundaries and a couple of sixes. But his innings could not take the Tigers home as they lost the second T20I against hosts Zimbabwe.
But in the next match, his unbeaten 31 runs from 15 balls, where he struck six boundaries, helped Bangladesh chase down 193 runs and win the three-match T20 series against Zimbabwe.
The next stop was the series against Australia, where the batsmen from both sides struggled and being a rookie, Shamim naturally could not score too many runs against a quality bowling side on a spongy surface.
But he has shown a positive intent so far that he also talked about to The Business Post.
“Whatever the bowling attack is, I always have a positive mindset. I do not change my game, and I don’t want to do so,” said the 21 years old.
Shamim also told TBP that it is a great joy for him to be the first batsman among the victorious U-19 team to play for the national team.
“I am very lucky. It is a wonderful feeling. Especially winning both the series. I made my debut in the Zimbabwe tour, and we won the series. Later on, we played against Australia, and we won that too by 4-1. It is a wonderful feeling. I want to win more matches for Bangladesh,” said the young all-rounder.
Coming through age-level cricket, then the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League and gradually to the national team, Shamim realises that the competition level will only rise.
“International cricket is not an easy place. But I will always have a positive approach,” the youngster told TBP.
Spending time with childhood idols like Shakib Al Hasan, Mahmudullah Riyad was also another fond memory of Shamim from the two series he played.
“It is an amazing experience. I have watched them playing on TV, and now I am playing with them. It is something wonderful. Whenever I play with them, I feel an energy inside me that gives me something like a superpower. I really want to play more matches with them and win more,” Shamim told TBP.
