Meyerao Pare, which means even girls can do, is the title of the book composed by Monowara Anis Khan who was a woman cricketer in the mid 1980’s and later became the first woman to be a director in the Bangladesh Cricket Board.
The book was launched at function held at the Samson H Chowdhury Center of Dhaka Club on Sunday afternoon in presence of a number of sports personalities.
Monowara wrote the gradual development of women’s cricket in Bangladesh from her experiences as a cricketer and an organiser. “This book features the stories of struggle and hardship by the women cricketers. Hopefully this book will help to grow women’s cricket more and it will help to increase the people’s attraction towards the game,” said Monowara.
Former national captain Raqibul Hasan said, “In 1983, we went to West Bengal on a tour when a Test match between India and West Indies was taking place at the Eden Gardens. There we learnt that women cricketers played in the historic venue before us.”
Former BCB President Saber Hossain Chowdhury said, “When I was the BCB president, I started the training of women cricketers. The present success of women cricketers is something to be proud of for us.”
Former CEO of Asian Cricket Council and General Secretary of the BCB Syed Ashraful Haque praised the publication as a good initiative. “If we can translate the book into English, the whole world will know about our women cricketers,” he said.
Edited by Shamim Chowdhury, the book is published by Banglanama and it available at the publisher’s stall located at 120/5 East Razabazar, Dhaka 1205.
