Bangladesh Cricket Board will hold their Annual General Meeting at the Grand Ballroom of Radisson Blu Dhaka Water Garden in the capital today. BCB was unable to hold their AGM since October 2, 2017, due to various reasons and Covid-19 situations, but now they are fully ready to organise the meeting, said the CEO.
Nizamuddin Chowdhury, the CEO of BCB, told the media on Wednesday that they could not organise the AGM in due time because of event commitments and the Covid-19 situation.
“We tried to hold the AGMs timely in the previous years, but for some reasons, we could not due to some limitations. This year we also tried to hold the AGM in July, but that was also not possible due to the Covid-19 situation. Now we have decided on a date, and almost all the preparations are done. Hopefully, we can organise the AGM successfully,” he told the reporters at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium premise on Wednesday.
The CEO explained the reason behind the delay, “We had some limitations. Our organisation is such that we have various events around the year. On top of that, there is a covid situation. Altogether everything caused the delay.”
The key agendas for today’s AGM will mostly cover the organisational issues, said the CEO. “The agendas are mentioned in our constitution. Mostly the CEO’s report, audited accounts, annual budget- these things will be discussed in the AGM,” he said.
BCB Director Shafiul Alam Chowdhury Nadel told The Business Post that this AGM is more like maintaining formality. “This AGM is like a formality. The financial reports of the last three years will be passed in the AGM. No major change in policy level or anything,” he said.
Besides that, the upcoming BCB election could be an issue in the AGM as the tenure of the present board ends in October.
The BCB started as a voluntary organisation, run by sports organisers, and gradually the highest cricket body of the country is moving towards professional management with the time being, said the CEO.
