Juventus forward Cristiano Ronaldo is set to join Manchester City as the clubs are now negotiating on a deal that includes a player-swap.
The deal that could see the five-time Ballon d’Or winner at City might cost 28-30 million euros along with a player-swap. Ronaldo will earn around 15 million euros a year after signing on a two-year deal.
Reportedly, Juventus want City’s Brazilian forward Gabriel Jesus but the English club wants to include Raheem Sterling.
City are in a spot of bother regarding the striker situation as Harry Kane stated on Wednesday that he would be staying at Tottenham this season. The English striker was linked with City since May, and after signing Jack Grealish from Aston Villa, Pep Guardiola wanted Kane to replace Sergio Aguero, who left for FC Barcelona.
But City could not figure out a deal as their 150 million Euros bid for the England captain was rejected by Tottenham.
Bernardo Silva, also represented by Mendes, has been wanting out of City since the end of last season and as an attempt to lure out one of his clients, Mendes has offered another in Ronaldo to City.
According to Spanish news outlet Diario AS, Ronaldo is now just a step away from signing with the Citizens with the final negotiations currently going on.
New Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri had previously said Ronaldo would be staying at Turin amid rumours that he was eyeing a Real Madrid return.
“Let’s clarify this issue. Ronaldo told me that he is staying. He has always trained well and has always been available. I’ve read rumours in the papers, but he’s never wanted to leave Juventus,” Allegri said.
Ronaldo himself dismissed his return to Real, and current Los Blancos manager Carlo Ancelotti also said that he did not consider signing the Portuguese.
CR7 himself wrote a social media post saying that nobody tried to find out the truth.
“There have been frequent news and stories associating me with a number of clubs in many different Leagues, with nobody ever being concerned about trying to find out the actual truth,” he wrote.
Ancelotti also took to Twitter as he said, “Cristiano is a Real Madrid legend and he has all my love and respect. I have never considered signing him. We look forward.”
All of these pointed at Ronaldo staying in Turin but all of that went up in the air once again as reports in England suggested that his agent Mendes had offered the player to Manchester City, rivals of Ronaldo’s former club Manchester United.
Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has said that he doesn’t expect a player who has played at Manchester United to join their local rivals.
“I wouldn’t expect any player who has played for a club for 10 years to want to go to their local rivals. It’s not for me. I know we’re professionals, but when you play for Man Utd you don’t go to Man City. We’ve had examples of that and I didn’t really agree with it. I won’t name names but you all know who I mean. Enough said,” said the United boss.
