The shooting discipline has been dropped from the upcoming Commonwealth Games 2022 set to be held in Birmingham citing security reasons.
The shooting and archery events were supposed to be held in Chandigarh, India before the Commonwealth Games but have been cancelled due to the Covid-19 situation.
Bangladesh Shooting Federation’s Secretary General Intekhabul Hamid expressed his concern about the event being dropped as he thinks that this might see Bangladesh’s shooting get limited only to South Asia.
“Many have bid for hosting the next Commonwealth Games without the shooting event. If that happens, then we will be restricted to only South Asia,” he said.
Shooting is the only event that has brought Bangladesh medals in the Commonwealth Games. All six of Bangladesh’s medals came in shooting, including two gold medals. -TBP
