Bangladesh Football Federation took third attempt to form an academy after failing to run two projects since Kazi Salahuddin took the charge.
Elite Academy of BFF, a newly launched project to develop grassroot footballers started its function from 11 August but due to the month of mourning, official inauguration was delayed.
State Minister for Sports and Youth, Zahid Ahsan Russel inaugurated the elite academy of BFF situated at Mostofa Kamal Stadium Komolapur on Sunday where 51 budding footballers of age 14 to 18 are admitted for higher training.
Previously, BFF tried to start their own academy at Sylhet BKSP and Fortis football ground in the outskirts of Dhaka but both the initiatives failed.
Salahuddin told the media that the players of this academy will receive higher training at home and abroad, “we are working with the best of our abilities. But it is the players who have to do the main job”
Vice-President of BFF and Chairman of development committee Mohd Ataur Rahman Bhuiyan (Manik) told the reporters, “Initially we are aiming at 10 years, previously the functions of the academy stopped due to lack of funds. We hope that there will not be financial problem anymore”. Technical Director of BFF Paul Smalley will be supervising the academy, he will be assisted by five local coaches.
