The Indian Premier League will restart today in UAE with a match between Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians following a four-month break.
IPL’s 2021 edition started in April-May in India, but Covid-19 contamination among players and support staff saw the tournament postponed in early May.
After a four-month break, the tournament is starting from where it left off as the two most successful sides in the history of IPL will be facing each other in Dubai.
The second day will see Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan’s Kolkata Knight Riders take on Royal Challengers Bangalore. Bangladesh seamer Mustafizur Rahman’s side Rajasthan Royals will take the field on the next day against Punjab Kings.
Currently, Delhi Capitals are at the top of the table with 12 points from their eight games. They are followed by Chennai, Bangalore and Mumbai in the top four.
Earlier in the season, Mustafiz played eight matches for Rajasthan picking up eight wickets at an economy of 8.29.
Shakib though, was not as involved as his compatriot Mustafiz as the ace all-rounder played only three matches, scoring 28 runs and picking up two wickets.
The final of the tournament will be held on October 15. Even if their teams qualify, Shakib and Mustafiz are unlikely to stay around for that as they will join the national team by then, who will reach Oman on October 7 ahead of their preliminary round matches.
