Joytu Sheikh Hasina International Chess Tournament starts today

Joytu Sheikh Hasina International chess tournament, a competition to celebrate the 75th birth anniversary of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, starts today at a city hotel in Dhaka.

This will be the first grandmaster’s tournament organised by Bangladesh Chess Federation since 2009.

In this tournament, 12 grandmasters, including five from Bangladesh, are taking part. The number of total participants is 60.

The five grandmasters from Bangladesh are Niaz Morshed, Ziaur Rahman, Reefat Bin Sattar, Mollah Abdullah Al Rakib, Enamul Hossain Rajib

Apart from them, three International Masters- Abu Safian Shakil, Mohammad Minhaz Uddin, Mohammad Fahad Rahman, Rani Hamid and Sharmin Sultana Shirin are also taking part in this tournament eyeing at higher norms.

The foreign Grandmasters are- GM Deep Sengupta (India), GM Ehsan Ghaem Magami (Iran), GM Masoud Mosadeghpour (Iran), GM Vadim Malakhatko (Belgiam), GM Andrey Sumets (Ukraine), GM Zubarev Alexande (Ukraine), GM Alexei Kislinsky (Czech Republic).

The tournament will follow the nine-round Swiss league system. The total Prize money for the tournament is $ 15,000. Out of that $13,000 is allocated for the main tournament, where the champion will get $4000, and the runner-up will receive $2500.

The remaining $2000 is preserved for players from Bangladesh, the highest finisher will get $700 while the second-best finisher will receive $500.

The opening ceremony of the 8-day long tournament will take place at a city hotel today. The matches will start from September 20.
