I think I am a lucky charm: Shamim

Shamim Hossain must be finding him lucky as he got included in the T20 World Cup-bound Bangladesh team just after playing only seven matches for the Tigers, but he thinks it is the other way around.

Shamim made his debut in the Twenty20 Internationals series against Zimbabwe in July and he was also picked in the squads for the series against Australia and New Zealand at home in August-September.

Bangladesh won all three series and Shamim thinks that he is a lucky charm for the team and this will continue in the upcoming T20 World Cup

“I think I am lucky because Bangladesh won three straight series after I came into the team. Hopefully, we will also do well in the World Cup”, Shamim told reporters on Monday.

Shamim was part of the under-19 Bangladesh team which lifted the trophy in the ICC U-19 World Cup 2020 and less than two years after winning the youth title he is appearing in the senior level global tournament,

“It is a big stage. A lot of world-class players will come over here. We have come over here after winning a world cup but this is the main tournament. In both the cases, we play for the country but as it is the main team so there are some differences with the U-19 team”, said Shamim.

Shamim was not picked in the playing XI for the first four T20I matches against New Zealand as Mushfiqur Rahim was back in the team, but he is hopeful to show his prowess if he gets chances in the World Cup,

“This is my first World Cup, so no particular thoughts. I am going with the team and it is a very big opportunity for me. Being a junior cricketer, I can learn many things from the seniors”, Shamim told reporters.

Shamim also praised the role of T20 captain Mahmudullah for backing up the young cricketers,

“Riyad bhai (Mahmudullah) always supports us. He loves the junior cricketers a lot, he always tells us to play freely”, said Shamim.

The young cricketer grew up watching players like Shakib Al Hasan and Mahmudullah and now he gets a chance to rub shoulders with them in the World Cup which he thinks is a great opportunity to learn,

“It was my childhood dream to play along with Shakib (Al Hasan) bhai, Riyad bhai (Mahmudullah). It feels good to play by their sides. Our senior cricketers are very supportive to the junior cricketers”, Shamim said.
