Bangladesh have applied for the hosting rights of a one-day World Cup along with Sri Lanka and Pakistan, Bangladesh Cricket Board President Nazmul Hassan revealed on Tuesday.

He also added that Bangladesh have also applied to host a Champions Trophy on their own and a Twenty20 international World Cup along with Sri Lanka. But Nazmul did not specify which World Cup they have applied for.

“We have applied for the Champions Trophy because we have enough stadiums to host that tournament. We have applied to co-host a T20I World Cup with Sri Lanka and an ODI World Cup with Sri Lanka and Pakistan,” the BCB President said.

He went on to add that BCB has already received the necessary green light from the Prime Minister’s office to apply for hosting a global ICC tournament.

“We needed permission from various ministries to apply for hosting global events. It’s joyous news that the first letter of permission came directly from the Prime Minister’s office with the sign of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina herself. It said that the Bangladesh government is taking responsibility for any global event hosted in Bangladesh. Other countries are facing troubles in this matter,” Nazmul added.

Bangladesh had previously hosted a couple of World Cups. In 2011, Bangladesh co-hosted the ODI World Cup along with Sri Lanka and India. In 2014, Bangladesh hosted the T20 World Cup on its own.

Newly-appointed Pakistan Cricket Board President Ramij Raza had said on Monday that they could have brought in Bangladesh’s B team to fill the gap in their fixtures created by the cancellation of tours from New Zealand and Pakistan.

Nazmul stated on this matter that as the national team had been in a bio-secure bubble for three consecutive series and will again be soon in October for the upcoming T20 World Cup in UAE and Oman, they said that no player from the World Cup squad could be sent.

“The team was in continuous bio-bubble, and after three series, they have a 20-day vacation. They will have to enter another bio-bubble soon. The coaches are also on vacation and will join the team in Oman. So, we don’t have the opportunity to create facilities for a series just before the World Cup. That is why we said that it was impossible to send anyone from the World Cup squad,” the BCB President said.
