Former captain and recently elected director of the Bangladesh Cricket Board Khaled Mahmud believes that the Tigers will the semifinals in the upcoming T20 World Cup.
Mahmud was the chairman of the game development committee at the BCB and he will continue his role until the next directors’ meeting which will take place after the World Cup.
Mahmud told the reporters that he believes Bangladesh will not repeat the same mistakes, “I believe Bangladesh will play in the semi-finals. Many might ask why I can speak so high about them? My answer is, the format (T20) is such that here any team can beat any side on a given day. We were very close to beating India in this format previously, we lost those matches which we could win. The boys will not keep repeating the same mistakes”, he told the reporters.
“In our team, we have senior players like Shakib (Al Hasan), Mushfiq (ur Rahim), Riyad (Mahmudullah) and Mustafiz (ur Rahman). If the top order fires, Liton (Das) is experienced enough and if (Mohammad) Naim also fires, I think we will be unstoppable” he added.
Mahmud played key role to develop the under-19 team which won the World Cup in 2020, as the next edition is also nearby, he believes that the upcoming young players will also live up to the expectations, “We will go to the (U-19) World Cup after playing some more matches, though I will not say that I am 100% hopeful. Winning the title is also about luck. But I hope they will play well”, he told the reporters on Sunday.
The former captain also said that the BCB is not only planning about the upcoming World Cup, there are plans for the next edition as well, “We will work in that way that we can become champion after two years. I have told that to the coaches, selectors. We have to prepare in such a way that we can put a good fight in that edition. We are planning to start the camp in May, right after the end of the Youth Cricket League”, said Mahmud.
