T20 World Cup winners to get $ 1.6 million

The winning team of the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup will not only take a shiny silverware at home, but will also fill their coffers with a lot of cash.

The winners of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 will take home a winners’ cheque of $ 1.6 million while the runners up will get half that amount, the International Cricket Council confirmed on Sunday.

All 16 competing teams will receive part of the US $5.6m allocated as total prize money for the tournament, which will be played in the United Arab Emirates and Oman from October 17 to November 14.

Bangladesh, will begin their campaign in the T20 World Cup on October 17 against Scotland.

The Tigers, can collect a large sum of cash if they manage to win though the odds are high as betting website bet365 is offering 1:41 for Bangladesh.

But if Bangladesh managed to pull such a wonder, they will not only make the bet placers rich but also will make Bangladesh Cricket Board richer.

For winning each match in the first round, ICC will provide $ 40,000 to the victors. So, if the Tigers can manage to win all three matches in the preliminary round, they will not only earn a spot in the super 12 but also add $1,20,000 to their coffers.

But if unfortunately, Bangladesh fails to get to the super 12, they will be handed $40,000 only, which is allocated for every team crashing out from the first round.

Next stop is the Super 12 round, where each team will also get $40,000 per win beside three points.

The teams confirmed to be competing in the Super 12 stage are Afghanistan, Australia, England, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, and the West Indies.

Four teams from the first round will join them.

Each team of the Super 12 round will play five matches in their route to semi-final, if the Tigers can keep a 100% winning run, they can collect up to $2,00,000 in form of prize money.

But if Bangladesh failed to win any of their matches in the super 12, which happened in their last outing in 2016; they will receive only $70,000.

However, if Bangladesh managed to do better this time and reach to the semi-final, a lucrative prize money waits for the Tigers beside the glory.

Winning the semi-final will ensure that Bangladesh can get a minimum of $8,00,000 even if they lose the final and end up being the runners-up.

But if Bangladesh failed to go beyond semi-final, they will get $40,000 which is allocated for each of the losing sides.

If Bangladesh surprise the world by clinching the title in a tournament where they failed to win a single match in the main draw since 2007, they will get $1.6 million as Prize Money from the ICC.
