DNCC Mayor Cup to take off on November 15

Football, Cricket and Volleyball- these three sports will be played in the Dhaka North City Corporation Mayor cup which was inaugurated at a city hotel in Dhaka on Monday.

In the inauguration ceremony, the Mayor of Dhaka North, Atiqul Islam, attended as chief guest.

He was accompanied by Mohammad Noor Ali, Chairman of Unique Hotel and Resorts and Hafizur Rahman, Chairman of Runner group on the occasion.

54 wards from Dhaka North City Corporation will compete in football and cricket tournaments. A citizen living in any of these wards can play for his respective locality in this tournament.

Every three wards will form a volleyball team, which makes a total of 18 teams to battle it out for the trophy of the volleyball tournament. The tournament will start proceedings on November 15.

Mayor Atiqul informed that each team can hire three players from outside their ward to play in the tournament.

The theme of this sports carnival is, “Get busy in sports, stay away from drugs.”

DNCC has involved former national cricket team captain Khaled Mashud as the technical director of the cricket event, while former football star Sheikh Mohammad Aslam will be carrying out the same role for football events.

Mayor of Dhaka North, Atiqul Islam, who is also the president of the Bangladesh Volleyball Federation, has included volleyball in this sports carnival. The joint General Secretary of the federation, Fazle Rabbi, is the technical director for volleyball.

Players like Mashrafe Bin Mortaza, Tamim Iqbal, Habibul Bashar, Jamal Bhuyan and Harshit Bishwas will actively campaign for the event.

DNCC Mayor expects that sporting activities will refrain the youth from drugs and crimes.
