Mohammedan’s Hockey player Rasel Mahmud Jimmy has been banned for one match and fined Taka 50,000 for assaulting the umpire during a match against Police Sporting Club.
Rasel, who was playing in the Club Cup for black and whites, assaulted the umpire Imtiaz Sunny and also engaged in a skirmish with opposition players goalkeeper Kanchon Mia and Shaon Tigga.
The decision of banning him for one match and penalty of Taka 50,000 came after a meeting of the tournament committee of the Bangladesh Hockey Federation.
He is escaping the offence with a small punishment due to the greater interest of the game, said the vice-president of the BHF Rashid Shikder,
“He could be banned for one year according to the by-laws, but as there were no activities in hockey for almost three years and the league will start soon, considering everything and the greater good he received such small level of punishment”, he told the media.
Rasel will miss out the semifinal for Mohamedan due to sanction. – TBP
