Bangladesh Under-19 national team lost the first match of their five-match Youth one-day international series against Sri Lanka by 42 runs.
Chasing 229, Bangladesh U-19 crumbled out for 186 as only Aich Mollah could show some respite with the bat.
Bangladesh had a good start to the match as they picked up three wickets by the 11th over. But a 67-run knock from Sri Lankan batsman Pawan Pathiraja and a late cameo of 25 off 15 deliveries from Yasiru Rodrigo took Sri Lanka to 228-9.
Ripon Mondol was Bangladesh’s most successful bowler as he picked up three wickets. Ashikur Zaman picked up a couple, whereas Golam Kibria, SM Meherob, Naimur Rohman and Ariful Islam picked up a wicket each.
In reply, Bangladesh lost four wickets within the 14th over to see themselves reduced to 35-4. Aich then put up a 70-run stand with Ariful before the latter went back for 38.
Aich was the last man standing as he tried to push Bangladesh to a win. But without proper support, he could only take Bangladesh to 186 before getting out on 88 as the last wicket.
Treveen Mathews was Sri Lanka’s best bowler as he picked up four wickets while Shevon Daniel picked up a couple.
Bangladesh U-19 will face Sri Lanka in the second Youth ODI of the series on October 18.
