England seamer Mark Wood said that he would not want to face fellow pacer Tymal Mills after he watched him in the nets during England’s preparation for the T20 World Cup in UAE and Oman.
Mills, who returned to the England side after more than three years, was in great form during ‘The Hundred’ in England as he picked up eight wickets in 10 matches with an economy of 6.67.
Wood, who had formed a fiery partnership based on raw pace with Jofra Archer to help England land the ODI World Cup in 2019, believes that he can do the same with Mills.
“It worked for me and Jofra, so me and Tymal might have to keep it going. He’s looked sharp in the nets, and to watch him, I certainly wouldn’t want to face him. He’s looking the business at the minute so hopefully, he can bring some fire and I’ll have to up my game as well,” Wood said.
Wood also spoke about his game as he said that he might have to do the legwork of keeping the runs in check if the wickets in UAE are spin-friendly.
“My contribution might not just be in the wickets column. If it is a spinner’s track, my role might be to keep it down as much as I can and then the spinners can attack from the other end. The thing you have to do is adapt within the game anyway,” the English pacer said.
England will start their T20 World Cup campaign against West Indies on October 23, repeating the final of the 2016 T20 World Cup. – TBP
