DNCC Mayor Cup’s trophy and jersey unveiled

The trophy and jersey of the upcoming DNCC Mayor Cup were unveiled on Saturday at the Hotel Sheraton in Dhaka with the motto, ‘Stay involved in sports, stay away from drugs’.

Prime Minister’s Private Industry and Investment Adviser Salman F Rahman was present at the event as the chief guest. State Minister for Youth and Sports Zahid Ahsan Russel, Unique Hotel and Resort’s Managing Director Mohd. Noor Ali, Dhaka North City Corporation’s Chief Executive Officer Md Selim Reza and Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Commissioner Md Shafiqul Islam were present as special guests. Bangladesh one-day international skipper Tamim Iqbal and former Bangladesh skipper Khaled Mashud were present there too. Dhaka North City Corporation Mayor Atiqul Islam presided over the event.

Saif Powertech will be the title sponsor of the tournament, whereas the Mayor Cup will be powered by Runner Group and co-powered by Daraz. Sheraton and Westin will act as the hospitality partner of the event.

The tournament will start on November 23 with three events- cricket, football and volleyball. There will be 54 teams from the 54 wards in DNCC.

In the event, the MD of Unique Hotel and Resorts, Mohd Noor Ali said that there could be multi-storied parking lots beneath stadiums in Dhaka and also thanked the DNCC Mayor Atiqul Islam for his work.

“Already, Dhaka’s mosquito problem has been solved. Hopefully, under the mayor’s leadership, all the civic problems will be solved. Multi-storied parking lots can be made under the stadiums in Dhaka. Many will come forward in this initiative,” Noor Ali said.

He also thanked the mayor for his contribution to turning Sheraton Dhaka hotel into the top five-star hotel in the city and one of the best in the global Sheraton hotel chain. Also, he thanked Prime Minister’s Private Sector Industry and Investment Adviser Salman F Rahman for his contribution in this regard.

Unique Hotel and Resorts Limited own the Sheraton Dhaka, Westin Dhaka, and Hansa Hotel.

Salman F Rahman said, “Everyone will be able to participate in this tournament. We will request for women’s teams along with men’s teams. Work for stadiums in every Upazilla will start next month.”

DNCC Mayor Atiqul said, “I want every ward to field their team. Winning is not the goal. The goal is to eradicate drugs. We should encourage sports.”

The opening ceremony of the tournament will be in Dhaka’s Army Stadium with 54 teams from 54 wards.
