Dhaka Division need only 18 runs to complete a thumping victory over Sylhet Division in the Tier-1 first-round match of the 23rd National Cricket League at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium Academy Ground as they finished the second day on 48-3.

Dhaka’s left-arm spinner Nazmul Islam provided his career-best match bowling figure of 10-64 and helped his team to bowl out Sylhet for 174 runs in the second innings on Monday.

Nazmul, who claimed 6-23 in the first innings, finished with 4-41 in the second innings while Shuvagata Hom also picked up three wickets as they restricted Sylhet cheaply again after dismissing them for 67 runs in their first innings. Dhaka made 176 runs in the first innings. In the other match of Tier-1, Khulna Division trailed Rangpur Division by 86 runs at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium after Khulna finished the second day’s play on 171-4 with Anamul Haque making 72 not out.

Rangpur earlier made 257 runs in their first innings. Off-spinner Mehidy Hasan claimed 6-90 for Khulna.

In Tier-2, Chattogram Division’s Yasir Ali played a knock of 129 runs from 198 balls, his ninth first-class hundred while Irfan Sukkur and Mominul Haque made 63 and 50 runs respectively before they were bowled out for 349 runs against Rajshahi in their first innings at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram.

Rajshahi spinner duo Sunzamul Islam and Taijul Islam finished with 5-99 and 4-119 in the innings. Chattogram, which earned a massive 183-run first-innings lead, and then reduced Rajshahi to 79-3 in their second innings to take a strong position in the contest.

Meanwhile, the second day’s play of the other Tier-2 encounter in Cox’s Bazar between Barishal and Dhaka Metropolis couldn’t take place due to rain on Monday.
