Family members of the Bangladesh national cricketers are actively engaging themselves in verbal battles as the cricketers are receiving harsh criticism for their poor show in the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup.
The Tigers continue their lacklustre performance in the ICC T20 World Cup where they were defeated by Scotland in the first qualifying round and later on suffered three straight defeats against Sri Lanka, England and West Indies.
But some cricketers did not take the blame for their poor show, rather they started to take a dig against the critics during their media engagements.
Mushfiqur Rahim, in the press conference after suffering a defeat to Sri Lanka due to poor fielding, told the critics to stand in front of the mirror,
“Those who blame us should look their face in the mirror because they don’t play for Bangladesh” he told on October 24.
Captain Mahmudullah previously also said that the players make big sacrifices for the team, their commitment should not be questioned
“We are human, we also have feelings. We have families. Our parents and children sit in front of the TV. They also get upset. Everyone has social media on their phone these days. We expect criticism when it is warranted but if that resorts to being belittled, we feel bad”, he told in a press conference.
But the verbal battle took a new height when the wife of Shakib Al Hasan, pointed fingers to two cricketers who appeared as analyst in a private TV channel in Bangladesh.
In her verified Facebook page, Umme Ahmed Shishir wrote
“Can we talk about 2019 World Cup for a bit I wonder how we couldn’t manage to win against bigger teams like India Pakistan England Australia New Zealand while we had our speed stars and best opening partnership! What went wrong in those matches curious mind wants to know! Why so much of talking now while the structure is still the same. I wish we had some talk shows back then to discuss some of those mistakes so we didn’t have to fail today!”, she posted on October 28.
Shishir was indicating to Tamim Iqbal and Mashrafe Bin Mortuza who appeared in as experts during a TV talk show on T20 World Cup. Mashrafi’s younger brother Morsalin Bin Mortaza also took wrote a reply to her status,
“Before making any comment on something, I should know that do I have the adequate knowledge of talking on that matter or not. Many have the habit of poking nose but at the same time many people don’t have the decency of speaking according to their wisdom” he wrote on October 28.
This is not the first time Shishir took Facebook to answer her husband’s critics.
During the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League, where Shakib kicked the stumps while playing for Mohamedan against Abahani, she wrote.
“I’m enjoying this incident as much as the media is, finally some news on tv! It is great to see the support of the people who can see the clear picture of today’s incident at least someone has the guts to stand against all odds. However, it is sad to see the main issue getting buried by the media highlighting only the anger that he showed. The main issue is the ongoing eye-catching decisions of the umpires! The headlines are really saddening. To me it is a plot against him that has been going on for a while to portray him as the villain in all circumstances! If you are a cricket lover beware of your actions!”, wrote Shishir on Facebook.
Shishir made a habit of commenting on different issues involving Shakib which includes the labour strike for unpaid wage at the agro-farm owned by Shakib.
She even wrote in a Facebook post that the journalists always write negative about Shakib because she does not invite the media personnel for dinner.
But the latest edition to the list is the wife of Liton Kumar Das, who is receiving constant criticism for his poor show in the ongoing T20 World Cup.
After the match against West Indies, where Liton missed the chance of stumping Nicholas Pooran when he was just on two but later played a knock of 40 runs from just 22 balls. Liton’s wife Debosri Sonchita who goes by the name LD Sonchita wrote on Facebook,
“The thing is,it’s not the actual problem every time if someone miss the catch or scores poor..Sometimes the problem is only and only with the particular person or his name! It was fine for us to see people mocking or making memes,as we’re already used to it.But,when I realised there’s some business pages who’s trying to run their business by using his name or indirectly praying for his poor performance,I’ve lost my words.Imagine being this much evil and rotten minded person,so you’re praying a player should scores poor in match, for your business strategy! Shame !!!”, she wrote on Saturday.
After Bangladesh lost to Scotland in their first match of the first round the Bangladesh Cricket Board President Nazmul Hasan raised questions about the playing attitude of senior cricketers.
Later on, the cricketers started to react during the media engagements and finally the family members are also started to take part in this feud which clearly show that the harmony in the team is lost.
