Bangladesh Allrounder Shakib Al Hasan has been ruled out of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 due to a hamstring injury, said a media release from Bangladesh Cricket Board.
The all-rounder picked up a hamstring strain during the Bangladesh-West Indies match on Friday.
Bangladesh Team Doctor Debashis Chowdhury said: “Shakib sustained a left lower hamstring strain while fielding during the match against the West Indies. In clinical examination it was diagnosed as an injury of Grade 1 intensity.
“He is ruled out from participation in the last two matches of the tournament and until further review.”
The Bangladesh Team will not take a replacement for the player for the remainder of the competition.
Shakib was under observation for 48 hours, and things are not looking good for the all-rounder as physicians suggest it will take at least seven days to recover from such type of injury.
Shakib joined the national team straight from the Indian Premier League, where his team Kolkata Knight Riders reached the final and lost to Chennai Super Kings.
Shakib played the last three matches for Kolkata and traveled to Muscat from Dubai by road to skip the crowd and maintain the bio-secure bubble.
He then played in all the matches for Bangladesh so far in the campaign.
In the last 18 days, Shakib has played nine competitive matches which include the IPL final, whereas most of the cricketers from this franchise league got a few days to rest as their teams qualified for the Super 12 through rankings.
Bangladesh will play a three-match T20i series against Pakistan right after the T20 World Cup which will be followed by a two-match Test series.
Bangladesh will play against South Africa on November 2 and against Australia on November 4.
As The Tigers lost all three matches so far in the Super 12 Round, there is virtually no hope for them to qualify for the semi-finals.
