Bangladesh Under-19 World Cup winners Mahmudul Hasan Joy and Mrittunjoy Chowdhury shined on the second day of the fifth round of the National Cricket League as Mahmudul picked up a century for Chattogram against Barishal, whereas Mrittunjoy took five wickets for Khulna against Rangpur.

After Barishal folded for 236 in their first innings, Mahmudul’s century helped Chattogram pile up 364-4 at the end of the second day’s play. Before getting out to Monir Hossain, the youngster scored 121, hitting nine boundaries and a six.

He had help from skipper Mominul Haque (81), and fellow World Cup winner Shahadat Hossain Dipu as both of them picked up fifties, with Shahadat staying unbeaten on 63 at stumps.

After getting bowled out for 257 against Rangpur in their first innings at the Sylhet Academy Ground, Khulna managed to restrict Rangpur to just 222, courtesy of Mrittunjoy’s five-wicket haul.

Ariful Haque top-scored for Rangpur with 66, whereas skipper Akbar Ali scored 43. Apart from Mrittunjoy’s fifer, Mehidy Hasan Miraz picked up four wickets for Khulna.

In their second innings, Khulna managed 21 by stumps, losing Anamul Haque’s wicket.

At Sylhet International Cricket Stadium, Sylhet managed to take a healthy 142-run first innings lead after bowling Dhaka out for just 122 in their first innings.

Sayem Alam Rizvi (78) and Sylhet skipper Zakir Hasan (67) were the protagonists of Sylhet’s batting as they managed to put 265 on board.

In their second innings, Dhaka managed 22 runs for a wicket by the end of the day’s play as Nasum Ahmed dismissed Rony Talukdar upfront.

At BKSP, Dhaka Metro also had a marvellous day with the bat as they piled up 353-6 by the end of the second day after bowling Rajshahi out for 232.

Four Dhaka Metro batsmen hit fifties on the second day, with Shamsur Rahman top-scoring with 89. Skipper Shadman Islam scored 62, whereas Aminul Islam Biplob (65*) and Abu Hider Rony (56*) stayed unbeaten at the end of the day’s play.
