Bangladesh batsman Tamim Iqbal warns his fellow cricketers about Pakistan’s speedster Shaheen Shah Afridi who will be playing against the Tigers in the upcoming series.
Seven cricketers, chosen by the selectors have started preparation camp at Sher-E-Bangla National Cricket Stadium Mirpur under the supervision of Khaled Mahmud.
Towhid Hridoy is one of them, who was playing in the National Cricket League for his side Rajshahi Division but brought in Dhaka for a special training camp to enhance his power-hitting ability.
Tamim Iqbal, who skipped the T20 World Cup due to injury and personal reasons has been doing his recovery works at SBNCS where he met the cricketers who could get a call for the upcoming series against Pakistan.
Tamim has warned the aspiring cricketers to handle Shaheen Shah Afridi with extreme care as he is deadly in his first over, said Towhid
“Tamim (Iqbal) Bhai always inspires us. He always tells us good things. He tells us about how to take our game to the next level. He warned us about Shaheen Shah Afridi, he said `Afridi will try to give six Yorkers in his first over’, if I get selected for the Pakistan series or any of us, this is a piece of valuable information” Towhid told the reporters on Tuesday.
Since his T20 debut in February 2018, Afridi has taken a wicket in the first over 20 times in 61 innings and once he took two in the first over, so 21 wickets in first overs altogether for him which is a clear threat for openers.
Unmukt Chand who was the captain of the under-19 World Cup-winning Indian team in 2012 recently has announced retirement and moved to the USA.
Towhid is also aware that winning the youth World Cup is just not the end of the road, rather it’s the beginning,
“Actually, it’s a matter of how someone looks at it. Our aim is to give our best to get a spot on the national team and after getting a chance also give the best for the country. It will work for someone and will not for a few. We will try our best and hopefully, we will be successful” he told the reporters at SBNCS on Tuesday.
Regarding the training program, Towhid said,
“Actually, the selectors can tell why we are being called in. Our main job is to put focus on training. Sujan (Khaled Mahmud) sir is there, coaches are there, we are working under their supervision”, said the cricketer.
