Bangladesh women’s national cricket team thrashed Zimbabwe by eight wickets in the first match of their three-match one-day international series in Bulawayo.

In their first ODI in almost two years, Bangladesh bowled Zimbabwe out for just 48 before chasing down the total within the 11th over.

Nigar Sultana Joty was appointed as the Bangladesh skipper before the team left for Zimbabwe, but she missed out due to a finger injury. Fahima Khatun led the side in her absence and opted to field first after winning the toss.

The inexperienced Zimbabwean batters had no clue in front of the Bangladesh bowling lineup that included veterans like Salma Khatun and Jahanara Alam. As a result, they could only survive 23.2 overs and were bowled out for 48. Only one of their batters, Precious Marange (17), managed to reach double figures as their second-highest score was seven.

Jahanara, Salma, and Nahida Akter picked up three wickets each, with Ritu Moni picking up one.

In reply, Bangladesh lost their openers Murshida Khatun and Sharmin Akhter early but an unbeaten 28-run stand between Fargana Hoque and Rumana Ahmed ensured that Bangladesh got an early 1-0 lead in the series.

Bangladesh will face Zimbabwe in the second ODI on Saturday before the series finale on Monday.
