Asian Archery Championships 2021 started in Dhaka on Sunday where South Korean archers reigned supreme on the first day.

26 archers from nine countries took part in the qualification event for the women’s recurve event. South Korea’s Ryoo Su Jung topped the charts with 687 points, with her compatriots, Oh Yejin and Lim Haejin finished second and third.

Diya Siddique was the top-ranked among the Bangladeshi archers as she scored 637, besting her Olympic score of 635, to finish 12th. Beauty Ray, Srabony Akter and Nasrin Akter also qualified for the final round.

39 archers from 15 countries took part in the men’s recurve qualification event. South Korea’s Lee Seungyun finished first with 680 points, with his compatriot Kim Pil-Joong finished second with the same number of points.

For Bangladesh, Mohammad Hakim Ahmed Rubel grabbed the top spot by finishing eighth 666 points, whereas Ruman Shana grabbed the ninth spot with 665 points. Ram Krishna Saha and Abdur Rahman Alif also qualified.

Bangladesh finished third and fourth respectively in the men’s and women’s recurve team event, with South Korea finishing first in both segments.

In the men’s compound qualification event, South Korea’s Choi Yonghee topped among 34 archers from nine countries with 716 points. Four Bangladesh players qualified for the finals- Nawaz Ahmed Rakib (9), Mohammad Ashikuzzaman (11), Md Sohel Rana (14) and Ashim Kumar Das (21).

In the women’s compound qualification event, South Korea’s Kim Yunhee finished first with 706 points. Three archers from Bangladesh qualified for the finals- Shamoli Ray, Suma Biswas, and Bonna Akhter.

Bangladesh finished fourth and sixth respectively in the men’s and women’s compound team event, with South Korea topping in both. In the mixed compound team event, Bangladesh’s team of Rakib and Shamoli ended fifth and will face Iran in their next match.
