Pakistan’s wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Rizwan who spent a couple of nights in the Intensive Care unit before the semifinal against Australia is ready to join the rest of the team in training.
Rizwan played a swashbuckling inning of 67 runs against Australia, coming out of the sickbed but that was not enough to take his team to the final of the ICC T20 World Cup.
Pakistan cricket team started their training session ahead of the three-match T20i series against Bangladesh on Monday but Rizwan was absent at the academy ground of Sher-E-Bangla National Cricket Stadium as he was rested.
The cricketer told the media in a video message that he will join the other team members from today, “I am feeling quite well now and will surely go for the training session tomorrow (Today)” said Rizwan.
The opening batsman has amassed the most runs in the T20 format in a calendar year which is 1743 runs from 42 matches in 2021 and he has few more matches to play as well, Rizwan is very happy to reach such a landmark,
“I’m happy that I have scored the most runs in the calendar year. But I’m more delighted that I was able to secure this record for my country. I would like to mention that Richard Pybus, Inzamam ul Haq, and Shahid Aslam have played a vital role in this journey”, Rizwan told the reporters.
Pakistan’s batting consultant Mathew Heyden had a big impact on the team during the T20 World Cup but the Australian did not come to Bangladesh due to prior commitments.
But Rizwan thinks that his lessons will help Pakistan team in the series against Bangladesh, “Mathew Hayden’s advice will surely prove themselves useful for all the batters of Pakistan cricket team. Not losing wickets in powerplay and getting early breakthroughs of the opponent in the powerplay was our strength in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup”, said the 29 years old batsman.
“We have seen in the recent past that the conditions here favor the spinners. The ball gets spin & grip here” he added.
