Bangladesh mixed recurve team of Mohammad Hakim Ahmed Rubel and Diya Siddique beat India mixed recurve team of Kapil and Ankita Bhakat by 5-4 set points on Tuesday at the Army Stadium in Dhaka to reach their first-ever final of the Asian Archery Championships.

After the match, Diya said that they were not afraid ahead of the final.

“At the ending moments of the match, I was feeling a little afraid. But we were confident. Every one of us were confident of this event. And we managed to achieve it. We are not taking any pressure on us ahead of the final,” the young archer said.

Rubel said that they were hoping for something good in the final. He said, “We tried to give our best. The rest is Allah’s will. We are hoping for something good in the final.”

The final of the event will take place on Sunday.

But in the men’s recurve team event, Bangladesh had a heartbreak as they lost on tie-breakers in the semi-finals to India.

Bangladesh’s team, consisting of Ruman Shana, Rubel and Ram Krishna Saha, blew past Uzbekistan 6-0 in the semi-finals and in the semis, they drew 5-5 with India.

In the tiebreaker, both sides scored 27 but as India’s arrow was closer to the centre, India went through to the final.

Bangladesh women’s recurve team, consisting of Diya, Beauty Ray, and Nasrin Akter, also beat Uzbekistan in the quarter-final. But in the semis, they were pitted against tournament favourites South Korea where they lost 6-0.

Both the men’s and women’s recurve team will now fight for the bronze medal.

In the compound men’s event, Bangladesh beat Iran 229-228 in the quarter-finals, but were defeated in the semis by South Korea.
