A jersey of the Swadhin Bangla Football team was handed over to the Liberation War Museum for preservation on Sunday.
Swadhin Bangla Football team’s manager Mazharul Islam Tanna and other players handed over the jersey to the Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque in the Cabinet Room of the Cabinet Division. The jersey belonged to Suvash Saha.
Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan, State Minister for Youth and Sports Zahid Ahsan Russel, Cabinet Secretary Khandker Anwarul Islam, Senior Secretary of youth and sports ministry Md. Akhter Hossain, Information and Broadcasting secretary Md. Mokbul Hossain, Liberation War Museum trustees Mofidul Hoque and Sara Zaker were present.
“Swadhin Bangla Football team wasn’t just a football team, it worked as another war front. They played football matches in various places in India, collected money and then donated it to the treasury of the Mujibnagar government,” Liberation War Affairs Minister Mozammel said.
He added, “The contribution from the footballers in our Liberation War will never fade away. They are also freedom fighters. The present government has announced them as freedom fighters.”
