Sheikh Russell KC kick off Independence Cup with 1-0 win

Sheikh Russell Krira Chakra beat Uttar Baridhara 1-0 in the opening game of the Independence Cup 2021 at Bir Shrestha Shaheed Mostafa Kamal Stadium at Kamlapur in Dhaka.

Mannaf Rabbi scored the only goal of the match in the 59th minute of the game.

Sheikh Russell were the dominant side in the first half as Saiful Bari Titu’s men strung together one attack after another throughout the first half.

They could have had the lead at half-time, but Rabbi failed to convert from Ailton Machado’s cross. The first half ended goallessly.

But Rabbi did not miss the next time around. In the 59th minute, he found the net with the first goal of this year’s Independence Cup.

Sheikh Russell could have doubled their advantage 10 minutes later, but Machado’s header was brilliantly saved off the goal-line by defender Jubayer Rahman.

Trailing Baridhara failed to make any mark on the match as Sheikh Russell came out victorious.
