Eight interested for six BPL franchises

Eight entities are interested to acquire the ownership rights of the six franchises for the upcoming Bangabandhu Bangladesh Premier League T20, tentatively starting from January 2022.

On November 22, Bangladesh Cricket Board advertised for submission of Expressions of Interests from reputed business houses/companies/consortium/agencies, and the last date of EOI submission was December 5.

Nazmul said that there have been eight EOI submissions for the six BPL teams for a single edition.

“Eight franchises have shown their interests to pick a BPL team, that I have learned today (Monday). Now we will see their offers review and sort things out. We haven’t finalised anything,” the BCB President told the reporters.

According to the BCB’s general guideline, published on the website, a team owner has to spend Tk 5,00,00,000 altogether in a single edition of this T20 tournament. Tk 1,00,00,000 is the franchise fee, and the remaining 4,00,00,000 is the team expense under the franchise fee (players’ payment).

Nazmul, while answering a reporter’s question regarding the difference between the payments of a local cricketer and an international cricketer, said, “When we were discussing the BPL, I said that the margin between the payments of a local player and a foreign player should not be too big.”

But the general guidelines show that there has been a big difference in terms of payments.

An A+ category local cricketer, available for the full tournament, will get Tk 5,00,000, whilst a foreign cricketer under the same category will receive $75,000 or Tk 6,45,000.

In A category, the local player’s remuneration is Taka 2,50,000, but a foreign player from the same category will get $50,000 or Taka 4,30,000.

The franchises might struggle to fetch renowned international cricketers to BPL because the Pakistan Super League will also go on at the same time.
