Rangana Herath, the spin bowling coach of the Bangladesh national team, was found Covid-19 positive in New Zealand, where the team is at the "Managed Isolation Quarantine" at present.
Bangladesh Cricket Board director and the Chairman of the Cricket Operations Committee, Akram Khan, told the reporters that Herath was found Covid-19 positive in the third RT-PCR test after they reached New Zealand.
"Our (spin) bowling coach, Herath, was found Covid-19 positive. When the team was travelling to New Zealand, there was a Covid-19 positive patient in the flight which was detected later. Those who sat close to that person were isolated from the other members of the team and will have to go through three more days of the quarantine period," Akram told the reporters on Wednesday.
Bangladesh Test team cricketers left for New Zealand on December 8 at midnight, and Herath Joined the team from Sri Lanka after getting a new contract till November 2023.
Akram also said that except for the group of players and officials who came in close contact with a Covid-19 positive person, the rest of the team members have trained in the gym at the hotel, and due to rain, they could not train in the outdoors.
"Four to five players and one or two officials are in this group who are still serving quarantine. Herath was one of them," said Akram.
The Business Post learned that Bangladesh Test captain Mominul Haque, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Team Director Khaled Mahmud, and selector Abdur Razzak are in this group.
