Bashundhara Kings will take on Dhaka Abahani Ltd in the final of the Independence Cup 2021 on Saturday after beating Bangladesh Police FC 2-1 in extra time in the second semi-final on Tuesday.
Kings, the defending Champions of the Independence Cup, faced a tough battle in their semi-final as they conceded in the eighth minute to go behind. Police’s Danilo scored a brilliant header to see the underdogs go ahead.
But Kings managed to crawl their way back into the game in the 30th minute when Mohammad Ibrahim entered the Police penalty box from the right side and managed to put the ball in the net.
But the remaining 60 minutes did not produce another goal as Kings tried heart and soul to breach the Police defence.
They finally managed to do it in the 118th minute, with only two minutes remaining till tie-breakers. From a Robson corner, Yeasin Arafat managed to poke the ball into the net to break Police hearts and send Kings into the final.
The final will take place at the Shaheed Sipahi Mostofa Kamal Stadium in Kamalapur, Dhaka at 5:30 PM on Saturday.
The final will see Daniel Colindres take on his old team as the Costa Rican forward, playing for Abahani now, who had played for Kings for two years from 2018 to 2020.
