To celebrate victory day, several sports bodies of Bangladesh have organised special events to mark the occasion.

Cricket

To commemorate Abdul Halim Chowdhury Jewel and Mushtak Ahmed, Bangladesh Cricket Board have organised a friendly Twenty20 match at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on December 16, where former cricketers will take part in two teams named after Jewel and Mushtak, who sacrificed their lives during the war of independence in 1971.

Jewel, an opening batsman, played seven first-class matches for the then Dacca team, and Mustak was the key person behind Azad Boys Club.

Mustak was killed by the Pakistan Army during the ‘Operation Searchlight’ on March 25 at midnight in 1971. Jewel later joined the urban guerrilla group ‘Crack Platoon’ and carried out a few operations inside the capital before getting arrested by the collaborators, and later he was presumed dead.

To honour their sacrifices, the BCB has named two galleries of the SBNCS as Shahid Jewel Stand and Shahid Mushtaq Stand.

On victory day, BCB also arranges an exhibition match where former cricketers take part to remember their fallen comrade.

The match will start at 11 AM.

Football

To celebrate the golden jubilee of victory, Bangladesh Football Federation has organised an exhibition match at the artificial turf ground beside the BFF office on December 16 at 3 PM.

Participating former footballers will be divided into two teams, team red and team green for this match.

Chess

To celebrate the Golden Jubilee of victory, Bangladesh Chess Federation has organised 46th National 'B' Chess Championship which started on Wednesday.

Players with a rating of 2100 and above, selected players from six regions, national woman champion, and 5 players nominated by the Federation are taking part in this event.

The tournament will be played in a 9-round Swiss-league format, and the top nine players will have the opportunity to play in the 46th National Premier Chess Championship 2021.

Basketball

Bangladesh Basketball Federation has organised Bangabandhu Bijoy Dibosh 3on3 Basketball Tournament 2021 for boys and women at the Wooden Floor Gymnasium Dhanmondi.
