Bangladesh concede five against Japan

Bangladesh national hockey team were thrashed 5-0 by Japan in their second match of the Asian Champions Trophy at the Maulana Bhashani National Hockey Stadium in Dhaka on Saturday.

Bangladesh, who had been hammered 9-0 by India and then beaten 3-2 by India, could not put up any fight against the Japanese.

They managed to hold on in the first half, where the only noticeable incident was Yoshiki Kirishita being shown a yellow card.

In the second quarter, Bangladesh conceded two goals as three of their players- Prince Samundo, Puskar Khisa, and Sarower Hossain were shown a green card. Japanese skipper Seren Tanaka was also shown a green card.

Kenta Tanaka scored the opening goal of the match in the 21st minute when he scored a field goal before Raiki Fujishima converted a penalty corner to double their lead.

Kato Ryosei then increased their lead to 3-0 when he converted a penalty stroke in the 36th minute before converting a penalty corner to make it 4-0 in the 42nd minute.

Japan skipper Tanaka then made it 5-0 in the 57th minute of the match to complete Bangladesh’s demolition.

Bangladesh now sit last in the points table with zero points from three matches, whereas Japan sit third with five points in their game.
