Cricketers in NZ eagerly wait for Covid test results

Bangladesh Test team cricketers and the accompanying support staff are eagerly waiting for the results of their covid samples taken for testing on Sunday.

Rangana Herath, the spin bowling coach of the Bangladesh cricket team was earlier found covid-19 positive and therefore the quarantine period for the entire team was extended up to December 21.

The cricketers were inside the bio-secure environment during the Test series against Pakistan and they left for New Zealand on December 9 at midnight and since after their arrival they are staying inside the “Managed Isolation Quarantine”.

The BCB president Nazmul Hasan told the reporters on Saturday that some of the cricketers were unwilling to play due to the mental stress of living in isolation but he also stressed that there is no chance of pulling back from the Test series.

Pacer Shariful Islam, through a video message, told the reporters that their covid samples were collected for testing and now they wait for a favorable outcome

“Today (Sunday) our covid samples were collected, if we come out negative in this test then we will be free to go out and train on the next day. Therefore, we are very much excited, everybody is also a bit tense as well. We are sitting idle for a large period of time”, he said on Sunday.

Shariful also said about how their lives are going in inside the MIQ,

“We are divided into two groups. Every day we can come down to the ground floor and talk to each other by maintaining social distance, twice or thrice a day. That gives us a good feeling. It feels good when we see each other”, said the left-arm pacer.
