All-rounder Shakib Al Hasan is likely to play for the Barisal franchise in the upcoming edition of Bangabandhu Bangladesh Premier League, he told the reporters on Wednesday.

Shakib told the reporters at the Shahjalal International Airport before returning to the USA where his wife and three children live.

The all-rounder missed the three Twenty20 internationals and the first Test of the series against Pakistan due to an injury that ruled him out from the ICC T20 World Cup after the match against West Indies.

Shakib opted out from the New Zealand tour for personal reasons and he will be back in cricket with the BPL where he is likely to play for the Barisal franchise, “Till now, I have agreed to play for Barisal. If everything stays all right, then I will be playing for Barisal in the BPL” he said on Wednesday.

Shakib also told that he will be available for the upcoming international commitments for Bangladesh after the BPL, “No reason for staying out”, told the allrounder.

Bangladesh will play against Afghanistan at home and will tour South Africa after BPL. Shakib, despite missing out on the New Zealand tour thinks that gradually Bangladesh is showing improvement when they take on the blackcaps on their own turf, “In New Zealand, batting is very enjoyable. Last time many of our cricketers scored hundreds there. Tamim (Iqbal), (Mahmudullah) Riyad bhai, Soumya (Sarkar) all got their hundreds over there. Everyone must believe that they can also score runs over there”, he said at the airport.

Shakib had a bittersweet 2021 so far, he has become the father of a boy and gained some important business success but at the same time his performance on the cricket field he was not up to the mark which he admits, “The year was frustrating; we had a big hope around the T20 World Cup which we could not fulfill. But such things happened before, hopefully, we will make our comeback. In the new year, hopefully, we will come back strong and improve ourselves. We need to improve our game and at the same time we need to make improvements outside of the game as well”, he said on Wednesday.
