The champions of the upcoming edition of Bangabandhu Bangladesh Premier League T20 will be rewarded with Taka one crore and the runners-up will get Taka 50 lakhs, said the member secretary of BPL governing council, Ismail Haider Mallick.
The franchise-based domestic T20 tournament will tentatively take place from January 20, 2022, to February 20, 2022, but the BCB is yet to finalize the six interested owners.
Mallick told the reporters on Wednesday that the BPL governing council has almost finalized the team right’s owners and only little formalities are left,
“So far, six teams are almost finalized. We have given them some conditions; like depositing the participation money. Those who will deposit the money by today or tomorrow, we will accept their bid. If anyone misses out, we have two or three franchises as a backup. These six are; Dhaka, Sylhet, Chattogram, Khulna, Barisal, and Comilla. We have decided to go forward with these six teams”, he told the reporters at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Wednesday.
The BPL member secretary also said that lucrative prize money is also there for the winners, “Champion team will receive Taka one crore and the runners up team will get Taka 50 lakhs as prize money”, said Mallick.
Regarding the players’ payments, Mallick said, “Each team can pick one local player and three foreign players outside of the draft. If a player is picked outside of the draft, then he can play for any amount. But in the draft, the ceiling price for foreign players is $ 70,000. Then the amount drops down to $50,00, $30,00, $2500 according to the categories”, he said.
“There is no icon player this time. We have made the gradings for the players. For local players, there are categories like Taka 70 Lakhs, Taka 35 lakhs, Taka 25 lakhs, Taka 18 lakhs, Taka 12 lakhs”, he added.
The tentative date for the players’ draft is December 27 or sometime between January 3-5, Mallick informed the reporters.
The cricketers who are part of the Test team and now in New Zealand will also get full remuneration even if they can not play all the matches for their franchises, said Mallick,
“Three-four days ago the BCB president called me and (Sheikh) Sohel vai and said that the national team players will get rest if they want, it will not affect their remuneration package. We will fix that with the franchise owners” he said on Wednesday.
Earlier, the BCB president said that to shorten the tournament one venue for the BPL could be curtailed but Mallick assured that the matches will be played across three venues from January 20 to February 20,
“We are keeping three venues; Dhaka, Chattogram, and Sylhet. The players will return from New Zealand on January 14 or 15. After that, we will give them a bit of rest and will try to start the BPL from January 20. We will try to wrap up the tournament by February 20”, he told the media.
Mallick also said that due to the pandemic situation, the chances of organizing a grand scale opening ceremony are highly unlikely.
