Jalal Yunus was appointed as the new chairman of the Cricket Operations Committee at the Bangladesh Cricket Board as the BCB president declared the new standing committee on Friday.
After the BCB board director’s election on October 6, this was the first meeting of the newly elected board members where some significant decisions were taken.
After the meeting, BCB President Nazmul Hasan briefed the journalists at the BCB office inside the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium and outlined his plans for the rest of the tenure.
Akram Khan, who earlier showed his intentions of leaving the charge of Chairman of Cricket Operations but eventually left the final call upon the jurisdiction of BCB president, was not retained at the post where he served for eight years.
Jalal Yunus, the long-running chairman of the media committee, has been bestowed with the duty of the chairman of Cricket Operations, a wing of the BCB which deals with the national cricket team.
Akram will be in charge of the facilities committee and will try to develop a new wing that will deal with the physically challenged cricketers.
The BCB president earlier announced the formation of ‘Bangla Tigers’, a shadow team where the national team dropouts will play to earn their spot back. Now, the board has put that into a separate category, and Kazi Inam Ahmed was made the chairman of this wing.
BCB president also said that Jaimie Siddons will join the BCB as a batting consultant from February. His role is not fixed with the national or age level team as BCB will use his skills in various capacities.
Nazmul also said that there has been significant progress in the Sheikh Hasina Stadium project. He said they have hired consultants to select the best design and structure.
Women cricketers will also receive a raise in their salaries, and 89 first-class cricketers will be in the central contract, added Nazmul.
