Bangladesh Under-19 cricket team will face their Indian counterparts in the semi-final of the U-19 Asia Cup today at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium.
Both teams met in the final of the previous edition in 2019, where Bangladesh lost the match by five runs.
The junior Tigers won a triangular series in Kolkata where the other two teams were India U-19 A and India U-19 B, which makes skipper Rakibul Hasan confident.
“We have won the previous two games with a big margin which gave us a confidence boost, we also won a series against India which will help us psychologically. We will try to put our best,” he told the media on Wednesday.
Top-order batsman Aich Mollah also feels that playing against India before coming to the Asia Cup will help the team do well.
“We have played a series against India right before coming over here, I think that will help us,” he said.
Bangladesh U-19 team won against India in the final of the ICC U-19 World Cup in 2020, four cricketers from that team are playing in the current age level team also whereas India have fielded a completely new team for the U-19 Asia Cup and the upcoming U-19 World Cup.
India lost to Pakistan but won against Afghanistan and UAE in the group stage, Bangladesh beat Kuwait and Nepal in the group stage and shared points with Sri Lanka as the match was called off due to a breach of Covid-19 protocol.
