Bangladesh begin 2022 with a Test match against New Zealand at Mount Maunganui, and they will remain busy throughout the year as the calendar is full of events.
The two-Test series against New Zealand will end on January 13, and right after that, some of the players from the red-ball team will become busy playing in the Bangladesh Premier League.
The T20 tournament will end on February 20, and immediately after, Bangladesh national team will play three One-Day Internationals and two Twenty20 Internationals against Afghanistan. The ODI series is part of the ICC World Cup Super League, the qualification process for the 2023 Cricket World Cup.
The next destination for the Tigers is South Africa, where they will play three ODIs and two Tests from mid-March to the second week of April. The Test series is part of the ICC World Test Championship.
The Tigers will face the Lankan Lions right after completing their African Safari. In May, Bangladesh will play two Tests against Sri Lanka at home.
Later in May, Bangladesh might travel to Ireland for three ODI matches. Originally the matches were part of the Super League in 2020 but were postponed due to the pandemic. The new schedule is yet to be finalised.
In July-August, Bangladesh will travel to the Caribbeans to play two Tests, three ODIs and two T20Is. After coming home, Bangladesh will face Zimbabwe for two Tests, three ODIs and three T20Is.
The next mission for the Tigers is the Asia Cup. The Asia Cup will be played in the T20 format, with Sri Lanka hosting the tournament in September. The Ireland cricket team might come to Bangladesh for a one-off Test match followed by three ODIs and three T20Is during September-October.
The closing part of the year contains the most attractive cricket extravaganza, the ICC T20 World Cup 2022. The tournament in 2021 at the UAE was an exciting tournament and the next edition will be hosted by defending Champions Australia, and they will be armed to the teeth to defend the title.
In November-December, Bangladesh will host India for two Tests and three ODIs.
Bangladesh are presently at the second position of the ODI Super League, and the ODI series in 2022 will determine where they will be before the 2023 World Cup.
In Tests, Bangladesh still await their first win in the World Test Championship and their waiting might get extended as they face sub-continental rivals India and Sri Lanka at home and away they are facing South Africa and West Indies.
In T20, the Tigers have a chance of redemption from their debacle in the T20 World Cup 2021, but as the tournament will take place in Australia, Bangladesh need to work hard to push further.
