Independence Cup starts today

Independence Cup, a 50-over tournament featuring the teams of the Bangladesh Cricket League, will start today at Sylhet.

The matches will be held at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium and the adjacent Academy Ground.

The four teams participating are- BCB South Zone, BCB North Zone, Islami Bank East Zone, and Walton Central Zone.

The first day will see South Zone take on North Zone, while Central Zone, who won the four-day format of the BCL, fight against East Zone.

Central Zone have added Shakib Al Hasan to their ranks for this tournament, along with the likes of Soumya Sarkar, Mohammad Mithun, and Nazmul Islam Apu.

But they will be without skipper Shuvagata Hom as the all-rounder opted out because of personal reasons. Mosaddek Hossain will be leading the side in the tournament.

After their first matches today, South Zone will face East Zone on Tuesday, while Central Zone will take on North Zone. In the last round of matches on January 13, South Zone will face Central Zone whereas North Zone will take on East Zone.

The final of the tournament will be held on January 15 at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium.

All the matches will start at 9 AM and will be broadcast live on Bangladesh Cricket Board’s YouTube channel.
