Bangladesh, the defending champion of the ICC U-19 Men’s Cricket World Cup are gearing up ahead of the upcoming edition as they defeated the u-19 team of Zimbabwe in a warm-up match on Tuesday.

The young Tigers, led by Rakibul Hasan beat Zimbabwe by 155 runs in a rain-effected match, the result was decided by the Duckworth-Lewis method.

After winning the toss and electing to bat, Bangladesh posted a decent total of 277, particularly after a tricky start when opener Iftakher Hossain edged to slip in the third over departing for just 1.

But Aich Mollah got his side back on track, making 82 from 82 deliveries with three sixes along the way.

Wicketkeeper Md Fahim also chipped in with a timely 33, before captain Rakibul went after the Zimbabwe attack, hitting 36 before being run-out. Tailender Ripon Mondol then managed a quickfire 39 from 26 balls to take the 2020 champions up to their final total.

Zimbabwe were given a revised target of 256 in 50 overs but that too could not help them.

Zimbabwe’s reply didn’t start on solid ground when opener Panashe Taruvinga went for a duck. The next man in Steven Saul, launched a counter-attack, scoring 39 from 45 deliveries, but once he outside edged to Fahim his team were facing an uphill task. They were eventually bowled out for 110 runs.

Naimur Rahman picked three wickets for 18 runs in his 10-over quota, Rakibul did not pick any wicket but he was economical as he gave away only 16 runs in six overs.

Bangladesh will start their campaign to defend the crown on January 16 against England at St. Kitts.

The other two teams of the group are Canada and UAE, the top two teams will qualify for the Super League quarter-finals.
